Even if your dentures are made and fit appropriately, as per your requirement, still you have to take care of your mouth. Initially one may experience a slight difficulty in speaking and eating. Some people do experience an increased flow of saliva. But one should not worry, as these abnormalities are for a very short duration. Everything comes to normal once your mouth gets accustomed to your replacement teeth.
You should always remember the following points to keep your dentures clean and germ free:
- Remove and clean your dentures at least 2 to 3 times in a day with the brush and cleanser recommended for dentures.
- Initially the dentists may advise you to wear dentures during the night but normally, the dentures should be removed while you sleep so that your tongue and saliva can do there usual job of cleaning and stimulating the gums.
- Dentures should not be sterilized in boiling water as the hot water can distort them.
- Partial dentures should be removed before you brush your natural teeth, and should be afterwards carefully and efficiently cleaned with a brush and cleanser.
- When you are not making use of your dentures, i.e. when they are out of your mouth, you should soak them in a glass of water or cleanser as there is a possibility that dry dentures can become fragile and crack or break.
