How To Understand Obesity and The Toxin Connection
It’s no secret that we live in a toxic world. National Geographic conducted a study indicating that we, (the U.S.), are dumping over 770,000 Tons of pollutants into the environment daily. We’ve all heard the concerns about air and water pollution, global warming, and a whole list of troubles that go along with environmental issues.
But what does this have to do with our bodies?
We all know that we constantly ingest toxins and impurities with everything we eat, drink, and breathe. Our world is full of chemicals, pesticides, petrochemicals, pharmaceutical drugs, food additives, and more. New research is finally illuminating some of the ways this situation is affecting the human body.
Keep in mind that our bodies are constantly trying to deal with the onslaught of toxins via the filtering organs, (the liver, colon, kidneys, lungs, lymph system, skin, etc.). Unfortunately, these filter systems are not enough to handle the world we live in.
As excess toxins build up in our system they clog our natural filters, cause chemical imbalances in our bodies and our brain, and start to make us ill in all sorts of ways. Many of the diseases that the pharmaceutical companies are making billions of dollars from, are largely affected by our immune system dysfunction. Anything that compromises our immune function, (including the side effects of many drugs), will pave the way for more symptoms and then body break down.
In our culture, symptoms are the illness, (so we go to the doctor, who treats the symptom). In most cases those symptoms of illness are like trouble lights on the dash of our cars. Our bodies are trying to tell us something. We are eating too much, or the wrong things, or too much of the wrong things, or we aren’t moving around enough. Our organs are trying to deal with the situation but send signals to us.
When our organs are fighting to operate correctly but are clogged with toxins, they can’t deal efficiently with the delicate balancing act of keeping our body and brain chemistry focused on defense against all manner of health problems, (including obesity).
That’s right, excess weight is largely a toxic load issue, and here’s why: When we have impurities that the body can’t process, or filter out, it will enrobe them in excess water and fat cells.Hundreds of articles will tell you that fat cells collect toxins, but what they don’t usually mention is that there are fat cells created to protect the body from those toxins, and that if we remove the toxins, the fat cells have no reason to be there and will be processed away. As these fat cells collect, they add to the problem of belly fat, or visceral fat deposits, (that’s the area they end up in). Most of this fat comes from lousy diet, including trans fats, processed white flour, sugar, fluoride, and hydrogenation.
Obviously we need to get the right nutrition and exercise. Two parts of the body’s natural process to regulate itself. But how many of us try to eat the right things, exercise regularly and still can’t get rid of that tire around our middle where the dangerous fat is stored, (just outside of the liver)?
So, what can be done to eliminate the toxins out of our bodies? 85% of the world’s cultures cleanse as part of their cultural makeup. Not so long ago, if you were to mention cleansing in this country, it would bring to mind a rubber hose and the smallest room in your house.
Recently thousands of Americans have come to realize the nature and benefit of Nutritional Cleansing. This is the method that cleans the body’s filters so the body can do what it was designed to do. Many of the illnesses that we deal with are a direct result of toxic load and virtually all illnesses are complicated by impurities that we ingest.
Think about it. If we never changed the oil or filters in our cars would they run properly? They would run, for a while, but not well. Eventually they would stop running. If the vacuum bag is too full, will the machine pick up more dirt? If our body’s immune system is busy trying to deal with the DDT that we got from the food we ate yesterday, can it spend the needed time on the cold virus trying to take hold, or the arthritic knee, or the cancer?
With our bodies, as well as our machines, there is a certain amount of maintenance that is required.
In the last decade, ”Low Carb” was the term that changed the way we eat, think, and spend our grocery dollars. Now that new evidence has found that carbohydrates are in fact not the culprit, and that extreme low carb eating is dangerous to women’s kidney function, the next decade and beyond could be the period in our history when the term “nutritional cleansing” will help us reclaim our health and control our weight.
It’s up to all of us to become aware of what we consume, how those things impact our bodies, and what we need to do to keep our machine running properly. Now more that ever there are sources of information available to us. If you don’t know the right questions to ask the computer, talk to a nutritionist, naturopath, or a holistic doctor, (one who embraces alternative medicine as well as western).
